First Aid at Work

Who is it for? 

This course is a regulated for candidates who require a first aid at work (FAW) certificate to comply with HSE requirements as per risk assessment or for people who want to acquire new skills that can make a difference.

 

Pre-Requisites 

Candidates must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course outline and must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment.

Course Contents

The role of a first aider; Contents of first aid kits; Recording of incidents and accidents; Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency.

Administer first aid to a casualty who: is unconscious (including seizures); requires cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR); is choking; is wounded or bleeding; is in shock; has an injury to bones, muscles, joints including suspected spinal injury; has sudden poisoning; has burns and/or scolds; eye injuries; anaphylactic shock; has minor conditions to include minor cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters.

Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma and diabetes.

 

Assessment

Courses will be internally assessed by the tutor.

 

Qualification

First Aid at Work (FAW) certificate, valid for 3 years.
