Paediatric First Aid

Who is it for? 

This is a regulated course for candidates who wish to learn basic first aid with emphasis on first aid for infants and children under the age of 18.

 

Pre-Requisites 

Candidates must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course outline and must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment.

2 days

 

Course Contents

Personal safety and assessing the incident; Priorities - DR ABC check and sending for help; Unconscious casualty for child and infant; Resuscitation for child and infant; Choking; Burns and scalds; Fracture, including Greenstick fractures; Emergency treatment for seizures and asthma; Head injuries; Poisoning; Reporting and recording of incidents as required by the HSE; Contents of an HSE approved first aid kit at work and in the home.

 

Assessment

Courses will be internally assessed by the tutor.

 

Qualification

Paediatric First Aid at Work certificate, valid for 3 years.
