Who is it for?
Designed to assist operators of small shallow ‘hotel’ type pools in meeting their legal responsibilities and for anyone who may assist a lifeguard team. This is not a lifeguard qualification, it is for those who need to respond to an emergency situation.
The STA Pool Emergency Responder qualification is designed to train staff working in and around hotels and leisure clubs which traditionally have smaller pools which are shallower than 1.5m. It enables the holder to initiate the Emergency Action Plan, respond to a swimming pool incident, perform CPR, first aid, and aquatic rescue skills including basic spinal injury management. Employers may use our Pool Emergency Responder qualification to meet their Health and Safety responsibilities.
Anyone over the age of 16 years who’s duties include responding to a poolside emergency including fitness or hotel type pools that are traditionally smaller than a regular pool, where the swimming pool is not constantly supervised by qualified lifeguards. Further guidance may be taken from the Health and Safety Executives document ‘Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools’.
